Ultrasound is a painless and non-invasive technique that uses the reflections of frequency sound waves to produce images, showing the morphology of body organs and providing real time images of blood flow in the body. It is commonly used to monitor unborn babies’ growth and development, but ultrasound can be used to screen for so much more.
Stepping a little further… wouldn’t you like to know your car is about to have a flat tire before it happens? How about detecting diseases such as heart disease, stroke or cancer long before symptoms appear? A one-hour test could save your life by detecting many diseases before it strikes.
Heart disease and stroke are the most common causes of death in America. Both of these diseases progress without obvious symptoms, and they are both preventable! We run the risk of missing the early stages in both diseases if we only rely on the routine markers such as family history, high cholesterol, sugar or high blood pressure. About half the people dying from heart disease don’t have these risk factors and remain clueless that plaque is slowly accumulating in their arteries.
The whole body ultrasound screens in detail every single organ in the human body leaving undercover even the most minimal abnormality. It brings to life images of the blood vessel system measuring plaque accumulation in the major and smaller arteries; it assesses the heart rhythm and heart valves, it give us imaging of the thyroid, the liver, kidneys, uterus, ovaries, prostate and more!
Action follows knowledge and finding certain diseases in the early stages can mean the difference in life or death. Knowing you are at risk for heart disease or stroke, finding an enlarged or fatty liver, small kidney stones, thyroid nodules, fibroids in the uterus or a slightly enlarged prostate for example. All these conditions are reversible and the earlier they are detected the easier it is to take action!
